We welcome enquiries about Weddings from couples where at least one partner lives in our parish or is attending St.Matthew's Church and is on the electoral roll.
The change in the Marriage Measure from October 2008 allows a couple, where they or their parents have had certain connections with the parish, to be married in the church. To find details of what qualifies as a connection see http://cofe.anglican.org/lifeevents/weddings/marriagemeasure.html WHEN SHOULD WE BOOK?
It’s always difficult to know whether to book the church or the reception first but its better to make a provisional booking with us to make sure the date you wish is free. We are often booking into the next calendar year but dates can still be available at short notice. We do not normally do Sunday weddings.
HOW SHOULD WE BOOK?
Please ring the Church Office on 01332 552031
WHAT HAPPENS THEN?
Please leave a message and we will phone you back and explain the process and answer other questions e.g. cost etc..
WHAT IF ONE OF US HAS BEEN DIVORCED
Although it is not normally the practice of the Church of England to marry any person who has a spouse still living, it is possible for clergy to allow such marriages under the provision of civil law. We therefore consider ever request carefully and sensitively. We need to ask a few questions before we are able to book a marriage service but are very happy to talk with you.If we feel unable to offer you a Marriage Service we will always discuss the Prayers of Blessing following a Civil marriage which many people find to be a lovely service. You should chat with the Vicar before arranging a date.
